As Universal Beijing Resort marks its fifth anniversary in 2026, the resort has announced two new projects for its next phase of development. The plans include a new Fast & Furious-themed indoor thrill ride and a new nighttime spectacular at the Lagoon.
Among the two projects, the Fast & Furious attraction stands out for bringing a globally recognised IP into a new ride format.
A Beijing-Exclusive Fast & Furious Attraction
The new experience at Universal Beijing Resort is positioned as Asia’s first Fast & Furious-themed indoor thrill ride.
According to Universal, the attraction will not be a direct replica of an existing experience. Instead, it is being developed specifically for Universal Beijing Resort. The project will bring together the action-driven world of Fast & Furious with themed environments, storytelling and the ride experience.
This approach reflects a broader trend in the attractions industry, where major film IPs are increasingly being developed beyond visual theming and integrated into the physical experience itself.
Universal Beijing Resort has not yet disclosed the ride system, vehicle technology, capacity, location within the resort or opening date. The official announcement currently refers to the project as an “indoor thrill ride.” Further technical details will be needed before the attraction can be classified within a specific ride category.
A New Nighttime Experience at the Lagoon
The second project announced by Universal Beijing Resort focuses on the Lagoon area.
The new nighttime spectacular is planned as a large-scale experience combining lighting, music, storytelling and live interaction. The Lagoon’s water features and surrounding landscape will also contribute to the visual atmosphere of the show.
The project highlights Universal Beijing Resort’s approach of expanding its attractions not only through new rides, but also through experiences designed to strengthen the resort’s use throughout different parts of the day.
Fast & Furious Expands Across Universal’s Attractions Portfolio
2026 is also a significant year for the Fast & Furious franchise, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Universal continues to develop the IP through different attraction formats across its destinations.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, which opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2026, uses a high-speed outdoor coaster format, while the new Beijing project is being developed as a fully indoor experience. The two projects demonstrate how the same IP can be adapted into different attraction concepts according to the physical characteristics and experience strategies of individual destinations.
From this perspective, the Universal Beijing Resort project represents more than the addition of a new attraction. It also marks another step in expanding the role of the Fast & Furious IP within Universal’s global attractions portfolio.
