Organised by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Spor Istanbul, this year’s programme includes 42K, 15.5K, Corporate Run and Public Run categories. With events catering to both professional athletes and recreational runners, the marathon offers an opportunity for people of different ages and fitness levels to take part.
A Route Connecting Two Continents
The marathon will start near the 15 July Martyrs Bridge. Runners will begin on the Asian side before crossing into Europe and continuing through several well-known parts of Istanbul.
The 42K route will pass through areas including Dolmabahçe, Karaköy, Galata Bridge, Sirkeci and Yenikapı, before finishing at Sultanahmet Square.
Combining historic neighbourhoods, waterfront roads and some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, the route offers participants more than a sporting challenge. It also provides a different way to experience Istanbul.
Marathon Activities Begin Before Race Day
The Marathon and Sports Expo is another key part of the event programme. Taking place from October 29 to 31 at the Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş Performance and Arts Centre, the expo brings together sports brands, sponsors and various organisations.
Visitors can explore participating brands, discover sports products and take part in activities throughout the event. The programme also includes charity running initiatives, providing an opportunity for non-governmental organisations to introduce their work and connect with participants.
A Sunday Dedicated to Sport in Istanbul
As in previous years, the Istanbul Marathon will bring sport into the heart of city life. Road closures and public transport arrangements will shape the city’s daily routine throughout race day, while thousands of people take to the streets.
From professional athletes to those experiencing a city marathon for the first time, the event attracts a diverse range of participants. On November 1, Istanbul’s streets and bridges will once again become a shared meeting point for people brought together by the same goal.
